Just because there was a law, doesn't mean action was always taken. Under the Mosiac law, a parent could take his unruly childs life (Thou shalt honor thy father and mother), and although there isn't a record of that ever being done, the threat was there. To apply punishment to a broken law had to meet certain criteria. You needed at least two witnesses... think about that in regards to prostitution.. that would be difficult to prove, even though everyone "knows" the woman has a sulley reputation.

If you still believe in God and the scriptures I would present your viewpoints in what you have in common. My major points would be:
I love and respect God (jehovah)
I love and respect the scriptures that he has given us.
The scriptures tell us to seek the truth...Jesus said "I am the Truth"
I want to follow God, his scriptures and seek the truth and I shouldn't be made to feel ashamed to do so ... Truth can withstand scrutiny. I want the freedom the bible students had years ago to seek out the truth.Of course, if you don't believe in God or the scriptures, there is no common ground and you're screwed.

Near Death Experiences - How do JWs explain
by Double Edge ini'm not a jw, but it is my understanding that jw's don't believe in an immortal soul that passes on after the body dies...that when a person dies, they 'sleep' until called forth in the resurrection if they were found worthy.
is that correct?
if so, what do they think of the numerous documented near-death experiences over the centuries?

Buggin Out !
by mmetz ini would like to say to all who care, i am leaving this thread for good.
the bible talks about the unbeliever and those are the true apostates.
even though there are many here who truly love the lord as i do and have shared and taught an awful lot of helpful information to help me fight the battle against false religion, i thank you and pray for each of you.

mmetz.... I, like you, am not a JW or have ever been one, but I find this board interesting (in a 'looking at a car crash' sort of way). This board, like most others on the net reflect society in general - the good, the bad and the ugly. I for one, believe in an all powerful and loving God. I respect him and try to do live by his teachings. Just because people state other strong opinions that differ than mine doesn't affect me in any negative way, except to make me think. If others opinions are emotionally and spirtually dragging you down, that's not good....you should leave... until you become strong enough (as you get older) and act like a duck by letting it all roll off your back. Good luck.

Which is the most ridiculous religion?
by sleepy inmost of us now laugh at the witnesses, but i think compared to some others they are quite reasonable ( notice i said compared).. so which religion has the most crazy beliefs.. i dont have much knowledge of these religions but i'll mention what i know , feel free to add your own points or correct me if i'm wrong.. i'll start with.. mormons,.
believe jews migrated to america.and that we are angels on earth being tested.. monnies,.
believe rev moon is jesus on earth.they also use (missuse) quatum physics to prove their beliefs.. scientology,.

Say what you will about the Mormans, I know several, and one thing their religion doesn't do, they could care less if you investigate or read about other religions. They don't care if you attend other relgion's wedding, funeral, meetings, functions, or whatever. They don't have Elder's watching every movement you make - they are a very open religion. Also, they don't shun people, as they find that contrary to what Jesus Christ would do..

Paranoid about death and im only 31????
by master chief indont get me wrong im a really happy guy and live an exciting life but since i was about 20 iv always thought about how frightening the reality of death is it really bugs me ill give you an example im really young now of course and then i might walk passed a graveyard and even look at the stones and then i think that will be me one day.
but i cant imagine being dead i want to live forever and all i want to know is do you think the dead are conscious of nothing or is there life after death.
iv got this idea though see what you make of it, i think that r bodys are just shells and are life is in us and when we die we go to another realm maybe heaven etc i thought of this because angels can supposedly materialize in to human form and viceversa so what do you think people is there really life after death

I agree with a couple of posters above...we are created by a loving Eternal Father...we ourselves are eternal. That which we see, and for most people that which grows old is but a "shell" of our real selves. Consider if you can, all of creation; how everything is so planned out, it is only logical that we, who are created in the image of God are totally taken care of, regardless of what we do here (that's not to say we aren't accountable for our actions). Before I was 20, I had an operation...and without going into the whole story, I had an experience where I knew we 'inhabit' this mortal body - it is just a shell, but an important one for our journey here upon the earth. I wasn't particularly religous at the time. Go on the internet (to Google) and type in NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES. Read the volumes of stories for yourself, with an open mind. There are those that mock such things, as they themselves will not take the time to discover the answers to one life's most puzzling questions (for some).

We're not wrong, right?.............
by flower insuddenly i am hit with this overwhelming feeling that we are wrong and that there are logical explanations for all of the things that dont make sense.
aaaah.
this is awful.

Gads people...I'm am totally impressed and blown away by all of your supporting and intelligent replies to Flower. I just registered tonight (I've been monitoring the board for 3 months). I'm not an EX or a JW, but one who finds this site facinating. There is absolutely nothing that I can add to your meaningful and well thought out posts, (especially since I haven't walked in the JW or ex-JW shoes)... I can only say that God (Jehovah) is real, he cares about us individually and knows us so well. He is on our side, loves us, and will always watch over and help us as a loving Father who knows that this life isn't easy. He does not carry a big stick, but rather a helping hand and will see us through. Life is eternal and God is awesome.

Makes one think. Historically there's a lot to be said, not as a defense of Jehovah, but as a way of understanding those people in their time (which makes you wonder how much of that part of the Bible is from the peoples perspective). Thomas Paine himself is an interesting individual. As far as looking a Jehovah, I guess whether you are Thomas Paine or whoever, you'll look at Him through your own experiences with Him. I can tell you a lot about Thomas Paine, just from reading biographies of him, but I wouldn't even come close to the real Thomas Paine that people knew or associated with. Great post.

First Time ... after visiting for 3 months
by Double Edge inhave peeked in for the past several months and find this a very diverse (kind of) and interesting group.
i'm not an ex anything, (not jw either...if that's ok)... but i've learned a lot from you.
hope to be able to bring another point-of-view that can be at least half as interesting as most of yours are.. poetic overview of me (if anyone cares):.

An aquaintance is a JW... we use to get in some lively discussions, but they would clam up after awhile. After visiting this website, I now understand why. I believe they we're feeling guilty about having new 'thoughts', ones that weren't sanctioned. I like lively discussions and couldn't understand why this person would 'turn off'..now I know.

Hi. Have peeked in for the past several months and find this a very diverse (kind of) and interesting group. I'm not an EX anything, (not JW either...if that's ok)... but I've learned a lot from you. Poetic overview of me (if anyone cares):
I live for those who love me,
for those who know me true;
For the Heaven that smiles above me,
and awaits my spirit too...For the wrong that needs resistance,
for the right that needs assistance;
For the future in the distance,
and the good that I can do.
